iFab

Half of iFab's work at LAX couldn't be filmed. We told the story anyway

iFab is an architectural facade manufacturer in Burbank, founded in 2022. It became one of the contractors on the LAX reconstruction, and nobody knew. We built the story from what we were allowed to show.

LAX

One of the contractors on the airport's reconstruction

iFab was founded in 2022. Within a few years it was working on Los Angeles International Airport, a site whose checks and clearances screen out most companies. Nobody knew about it.

The company

Proof that nobody knew about

iFab is an architectural facade manufacturer from Burbank. The company designs and fabricates aluminum composite panels and does 3D scanning of sites. Its work includes the facade of Lexus of Beverly Hills.

The company is young, founded in 2022, and within a few years it was one of the contractors on the reconstruction of Los Angeles International Airport. Airports don't let just anyone in. Checks, clearances, and safety and quality requirements screen out most companies, so just being there proves a company's level. The problem was that nobody knew about it.

The problem

Why big projects vanish without a trace

In construction the work is public, but the contractor's name isn't. Thousands of people see the airport's facade every day, and only the people who signed the contract know who made it. The project ends, the panels become part of the building, and the crew moves on. A year later, one of the company's most important jobs is just documents in a folder.

For a young contractor, a project like this is the strongest argument it has. Architects and general contractors choose partners by portfolio and by who they've worked with. Having the LAX reconstruction on your list opens doors that years of advertising won't, but only if people know.

The idea

Treat the business like a personal blog

We suggested iFab look at its account the way a person looks at a personal blog. A business has moments worth recording too: the first big order, a new machine, a difficult site, a project you're proud of.

If nobody films them, they pass unnoticed. If someone does, they add up to a story that tells the market who you are and what you can do. LAX was exactly that kind of moment, and it needed more than a passing mention.

The approach

How to tell what you can't show

An airport is harder than any other site. Much of it can't be filmed or talked about, because it's a secure facility with safety rules and approvals. The easy option was to stay quiet, and many contractors do: if they can't show everything, they show nothing. We went the other way and built the story from what could be shown.

  1. 1

Production. iFab makes the airport panels in its Burbank shop. Design, cutting and fabrication can be filmed in full, and that's where you see the precision a project this size demands.

  2. 2

Scale. The volume of work, the number of elements, the complexity of the geometry. That conveys the size of the job without revealing anything it shouldn't.

  3. 3

People. The team that does the work. In B2B, a client chooses the company and also the people they'll be solving problems with on site.

  4. 4

The fact itself. Sometimes it's enough to say we were there. For the market, that alone is information.

Why it matters

The most important projects in construction almost always stay invisible, not because there's nothing to say, but because nobody takes on the job of saying it. For a contractor that's lost capital: every hard site is proof you could show future clients for years, and without a record it disappears when the work ends.

Restrictions aren't a reason to stay silent. Almost every site has something you can show: the process, the production, the people, the scale. The job is to find it before the shoot starts.

One last thing. A young company doesn't need to wait twenty years to look established. It's enough to get into a place where not everyone is allowed, once, and make sure people find out.
