EcoStar Remodeling

Remodeling runs on referrals. A brand is when people who never hired you refer you

EcoStar Remodeling & Construction has four offices and 15 years of reputation, but its account was invisible. We stopped filming the jobsites and started filming the people on them.

The situation

A company nobody could see

EcoStar Remodeling & Construction has been in business since 2010, with offices in Los Angeles, Dallas, the Bay Area and Seattle. It gives a two-year warranty on its work, rare in the industry.

Fifteen years of reputation, and an account that looked like everyone else's: before-and-after collages, drone shots, watermarked project photos. In one month it reached 80 accounts and gained seven followers. A company with four offices was invisible.

The problem

Why a portfolio doesn't fix it

In construction, a company grows only as fast as it finishes projects, because referrals come from people who have already hired you. The obvious fix is a portfolio, and it fails for two reasons.

  • It comes too late

People look at it last, when they're choosing between two or three companies. It closes a client but doesn't bring one in.

  • It answers the wrong fear

Homeowners aren't afraid of bad tile but of a crew that vanishes, an estimate that doubles and a job that drags on for six months. A pretty bathroom photo doesn't help, since the contractor who later disappears can post one too.

What we changed

We stopped filming construction

For a construction company it sounded backwards: take the projects out of the center of the frame and put people there. Our most successful reel for a construction company shows the owner and the foreman on a jobsite still at the framing stage, under the caption "When your boss shows up and decides to change everything."

Each joke works on a real fear from a different angle. The boss who changes everything tells you someone here comes to the site in person and digs into the details. A contractor who really does show up on time tells you the company knows your biggest worry and has it handled. We write every situation before the shoot.

The results

What happened to the numbers

First the account came alive. Reach went from 80 accounts a month to 84,598, and views to 178,641. Nine out of ten viewers didn't follow the company. Then single reels went far past the usual reach: 602,000, 566,000 and 109,000 twice.

The boss reel is the one at 602,000, while a high-end kitchen shot by the book got 30,000. The pattern held. Well-filmed projects got 11,000 to 45,000 views, reels about people and the work behind the scenes 100,000 to 600,000. Same team, same equipment.

Not every reel takes off, and it shouldn't. Reels on process, timelines and estimates get a few hundred or a couple thousand views, from someone already planning a remodel who checks you before calling. Viral reels bring people in. Quiet ones keep them.

Beyond the numbers

Known by people who never hired them

EcoStar is known in Los Angeles. People in the industry talk about the company, and others in the market watch its account. Several construction companies have come to us after seeing EcoStar's content and wanting the same. That is a brand at work.

Why it matters

If your clients come by referral, you have a ceiling, and you can feel it. It isn't your work or your price. Only the people who already hired you know you exist.

A portfolio answers "can they do it." A brand answers a question that comes earlier, "who do I even call," and the company whose name comes to mind first gets the call.

The material is already inside your business: your people and the everyday situations that feel ordinary to you. Someone has to notice these moments and film them so that other people recognize themselves.
